WJEC - A Level Travel & Tourism, GCSE Leisure & Tourism
We have been heavily involved in the development of the GCSE and A level specifications being offered by the WJEC.
The Travel & Tourism A level specification follows the new 4-unit format which means that candidates only have to complete one rather than two portfolios in each year of the course. We have no doubt that this makes the specification far more manageable than having to complete two portfolios and provides increased time for the effective delivery of the course which should lead to improved results.
The new GCSE course will be available from September 2009 as single or double award, with the two compulsory units focusing on Leisure and Tourism in a chosen area and Tourism Destinations. These are being supported through a free ‘virtual textbook’ that we are in the process of developing. For both specifications, Jayne and I are available as ‘on-line experts’ and will be able to answer any query you have about either of the specifications. The website address in www.wjec.co.uk and additionally the Subject Officer, Mike Neale can be contacted at Michael.Neale@wjec.co.uk

Sustainable Tourism in Dartmoor National Park
This new DVD shows how a major UK National Park is adopting a range of measures to support sustainable tourism.
Tourism is vital to the economy and communities of Dartmoor and it is the responsibility of the National Park Authority to manage the park so that the needs of the community and of the visitors are met, whilst at the same time sustaining the environment and landscape of the National Park for future generations.
The DVD has been produced in collaboration with the National Park Authority’s Education Service and features the Sustainable Tourism Officer, who tours the park illustrating the range of measures and schemes in place to promote and encourage sustainable tourism practices.
The DVD is aimed at GCSE Leisure and Tourism students as well as those following AS Travel and Tourism and Geography courses.
It will prove invaluable in providing a case study of sustainable tourism practices in an area to which students can easily relate.
